Abstract: Objective To evaluate the rat tibia cancer pain model with bone mineral density by iconography. Method Thirty six female Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into a control group and two model groups with 12 rats in each. Rats from model groups were received intra-tibia injection of syngeneic Walker 256 rat mammary gland carcinoma cells. Series of tests were carried out including spontaneous pain score, mechanical stimuli pain hypersensitivity test, X-ray imaging, bone mineral density test and histopathology observation. Result Bone mineral density test could make the difference between each group, and the result of BMD test was the same as other tests. Conclusion Bone mineral density (BMD) can be used to evaluate rat tibia cancer pain model.
