Abstract: Hereditary spontaneous disease animal models are powerful tools for the study of diseases like diabetes mellitus, hypertension and obesity etc. However, these special animal models are prone to be influenced by environment and diets. In this review, the metabonomics, a new research tool, to be used in discovering the biomarkers of these special animal models were introduced. The practicability of using these biomarkers to monitor the genetic quality of these special animal models and the necessity of developing the appropriate feeds for them were explained, so as to provide some references for future research.
