Abstract: Objective To find out the cause of diarrhea and wasting in common marmosets (Callithrix jacchus), and formulate feasible prevention and control actions, which can provide experience for large-scale marmosets breeding. Methods The causes of diarrhea and wasting were found, by analyzing symptoms, diet, feeding, pathologic autopsy, tissue section, anal swab inspection, etc. Results By using laboratory diagnosis and care management improvement, the diarrhea and wasting in marmosets was due to the changes in housing environment such as unstable temperature, breeding under the air-condition outlet, or frequent entrances and exits of staff which activated conditional pathogenic bacteria Klebsiella pneumoniaeand and led to two deaths. The disease was controlled gradually by changing the way of feeding management. Conclusion Scientific management and good veterinary care play the important role in prevention of the diarrhea and wasting in common marmosets.
