Abstract: "Located in Shanghai，the biggest city of China, Shanghai Laboratory Animal Center of Academia Sinica (SLACAS) is one of the largest laboratory animal breeder, supplier as well as monitoring agency in China. Half output of the qualified laboratory animals is provided for the institutes of Academia Sinica and the rest is supplied to the universities, hospitals, pharmaceutical factories and institutes all over the China. SLACAS has been developing dramatically since 1981. It is able to supply all kinds of laboratory animals annually——70000 mice，30000 rats，2000 BALB/c nude mice，3000 rabbits，100 dogs and 100 purposed-bred monkeys or even more. The full barrier facility with 2000M2 rooms has been producing top qualified SPF mice and rats. The purposed-bred monkeys have been exported to U. S.A®，U.K»， Japan, France, Germany and others and praised by clients.SLACAS lias established and improved the quality control techniques for all kinds of laboratory animals。 It still puts large amount of money into research division developing new techniques for laboratory animal quality each year. It has formed comprehensive capability of quality control with virology，bacteriology, parasitology, genetics, nutrition, and housing for laboratory animals® Thus? SLACAS guarantees the animal quality with monitoring result on request. 7 staffs have visited U.S. A.，U. K.， and Japan for study tour and brought back advanced techniques. 3 staffs attended international symposium on laboratory animal science held in U.S.A. and Japan. SLACAS has invited 99 experienced experts and friends from U.S.A.，Japan，Germany, Canada, Cuba, Sweden, New Zealand and Singapore not only exchanged points of view and learned from each other but also cooperated with some of them such as Sino-Japan cooperation on developing wild animal into laboratory animal. 《Shanghai Laborory Animal Science》 is the field of learning and exchanging new experience and publishing research achievement. Mr. Qian and Mr. Cao joined other ezperts in setting it up as members of Board. It has been becoming an important place to exchang new experience, publish research approaches on laboratory animal science for 10 years. With the substantial contents, readable wordsand reasonable setting type, it is welcome more and more Just as its tenth aniversary, it is congratulated on its making great progress and contributions to China's laboratory animal science in the period of crossing century."
