Abstract: Objective To explore the inflammation markers in prostatitis induced by carrageenan in rats. Methods Twenty rats were randomly divided into two groups, negative control group and model group (1% carrageenan), each group with 10 ones. Model group was injected with 0.1 ml 1% carrageenan physiological saline solution into the prostate. The negative control group was injected with equal dose of physiological saline at the same time and location. Results In model group, there were volume and a small amount of lymphocytes and mononuclear cells infiltration in the prostatic stroma, which showed obvious chronic inflammation. Compared with negative control group, CRP (C-reactive protein) content was significantly increased (P<0.05) in model group. The level of testosterone was significantly increased (P<0.01) and estrogen was decreased (P<0.05). Conclusion The chronic non-bacterial prostatitis can be induced by carrageenan, and lead to the changes of the inflammation markers, such as CRP, testosterone and estrogen.
