Type I diabetes mellitus were made in Wistar rats by intravenous injection of 35 mg/kg streptozotocin freshly dissolved in citrate-buffered saline solution. Stable moderate hyperglycemia was maintained throughout the duration of the experiment, without receiving any insulin injection. Body weights were markedly reduced at 1 week after induction of the diabetes and maintained throughout the experiment in the untreated diabetic rats, whereas non-diabetic control rats gained weight during the 5-month follow-up. Blood pressure (BP) and renal function data at 5 months after induction of diabetes were summarized. The untreated uninephrectomized diabetic rats developed hypertension with mean arterial pressure (MAP) of 128±2 mmHg under anesthesia. Renal vascular resistance (RVR) was markedly elevated·in the untreated diabetic rats as compared to that in controls (
P
<0.001),leading to a significant lower renal plasma flow (RPF)(
P
<0.01).Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) was comparable between untreated diabetic rats and controls. Thus,Filtration fraction (FF) rose significantly (
P
<0.001).Urine flow rate was also markedly increased in the untreated diabetic rats.Un-treated diabetic rats showed a significant increase in urinary protein excretion as early as 4 weeks after induction of the disease (36.8±3.6 vs. 21. 5±1.7,
P
<0.01 in control rats at week 4) , with a substantial progressive increase of this value over time. A ratio of the heart weight to the body weight was 3. 5±0.1 to 2.4±0.1 (
P
<0.001) and the left kidney weight to the body weight was 9.9±0.7 to 3. 9±0.1 (
P
<0.001).Both ra-tios were markedly higher in untreated diabetic rats as compared to those in controls. Thus, the STZ-injected uninephrectomized rats developed overt diabetic nephropathy,as evidenced by the development of hypertension, progressive proteinuria and renal dys-function.

In order to determine whether the Rhesus monkey is suitable for lumbar spine animal research, 7 adult health Rhesus monkeys were examined with X-ray and MRI. The heights of intervertebral spaces were measured on the X-ray films. The morphologic parameters of the vertebras were measured directly from 5 Rhesus monkeys’lumbar skeleton specimens and the intervertebral discs of 2 lumbar spines were observed histologically. It was showed that the variation features of Rhesus monkey’s intervertebral space height and the histological structure of discs were consistent with those of human. The variation features of the vertebral and spine canal’s width and depth were similar between the two species. The inferior lumbar regions of two species (L5-7 in Rhesus monkey and L3-5 in human) were most similar. There were, however, substantial differences between the two species on the number, height and size of vertebras as well as the physiological curvature.

To further research and prevent vein-bridge stenosis,we established an animal model which is similar to pathological process of transplanted vein-bridge stenosis after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG).Rabbit’s one side jugular vein was anastomosed side-end with common carotid artery, the artery between two anastomoses was ligated. One month after operation, lumen of vein-bridge stenosis was observed and histology exams showed that new intim was formated. It is proved that the model can truly reflect the conditions of vein-bridge stenosis after CABG.

Three methods were used to isolate nucleic acid from rat’s inner ear. The amount and the pureness of the isolated nucleic acid were analyzed by PCR and UV-spectrometer. The results indicate that the three methods all can prepare high-quality nucleic acid from rat’s inner ear:method of plasmid preparation is good for isolating mtDNA without nuclear DNA;the method with SDS-proteinase K is suitable for isolat-ing the total DNA;the method with Trizol is suitable for preparing total RNA, total DNA and protein.

To study the morphological changes of meniscus with age,the meniscus from rabbits, knee joint at the age of 1 months , 1 year and 3.5 years old were observed by light and electron microscopy. The results showed that the cartilage cells of meniscus lying in bead were located in lacunaes, there was a trenchancy of quantity of cartilage cells decreasing with the ages increasing. The formed eminences could be observed in superficies of the meniscus in one year old rabbit, they became even with the ages increasing. At the same time, very small holes and horrow areas were also observed in superficies of the meniscus, and became smaller with the ages increasing. The vessels were abundant in the meniscus of the rabbits of 1-month-old,but only in periphery and one third of lateral areas in the meniscus vessels could be observed in the rabbits of 1 year old and 3.5 years old. Collagen’s fibers became fascicularly lined from sparse with the ages increasing. It was shows that the meniscus are different at each age in metabolism, nourishment supply and repair.

To determine the changes of function and histopathology of liver during developing cirrhosis in Mini-pigs,12 Mini-pigs were fed with the food of high grease, low protein and choline, and carbon tetrachloride (CCL
4
),fenobarbital and alcohol were added. Function and histopathology of liver were detected every 4 weeks. 12 pigs were all induced to form cirrhosis after 16 weeks, of which 7 pigs were grade Ⅲ and 5 grade Ⅳ , according to Madden standard. The results showed that the model established was easy to develop , with high rate of success, low rate of death, and obvious staging in histopathological changes.
