Abstract: To study the morphological changes of meniscus with age,the meniscus from rabbits, knee joint at the age of 1 months , 1 year and 3.5 years old were observed by light and electron microscopy. The results showed that the cartilage cells of meniscus lying in bead were located in lacunaes, there was a trenchancy of quantity of cartilage cells decreasing with the ages increasing. The formed eminences could be observed in superficies of the meniscus in one year old rabbit, they became even with the ages increasing. At the same time, very small holes and horrow areas were also observed in superficies of the meniscus, and became smaller with the ages increasing. The vessels were abundant in the meniscus of the rabbits of 1-month-old,but only in periphery and one third of lateral areas in the meniscus vessels could be observed in the rabbits of 1 year old and 3.5 years old. Collagen’s fibers became fascicularly lined from sparse with the ages increasing. It was shows that the meniscus are different at each age in metabolism, nourishment supply and repair.
