To search the appropriate experimental condition for using green fluorescent protein (GFP) as a reporter in transgenic chicken, Freshly laid unincubated eggs from White Leghorn Chicken were used. Only embryos at stage X were used to separate the blastodermal cells. After incubated over night ,the blastodermal cells were transfected with pLEGFP-Cl by lipofectame. Fluorescence could be detected in intact viable cells under different sets of conditions, and the expressed fluoresccnce was stable. The trans-fcction rale of pLEGFF-Cl expressed was different in three cells lines examined. The GFP can be visualized continuously and directly for gene expression in living cells.

To imitate the dysfunction of detrusor following benign prostatic hypertrophy in man,the bladder ncck of male rabbits were partial ligated. The weight、volumexde-trusor contractibility were measured 5 weeks after operation . The detected items were all changcd significantly in obstructed group. It may be used as an effective animal mod cl in studying the therapeutic methods for detrusor dysfunction following benign pro-static hypertrophy in man bccausc of its pathophysiological course mimicking BPH in man.

The body and organs weight of KM mice from 6 colonies in China were mea-sured and the coefficicent of the organ weight were calculated. The results showed that the difference among 6 colonies of KM mice was found through ANOVA analysis 0.05),and the growth of body and the development of most organs of the mice bred in barrier system increased relatively fast, but the development of spleen and adrenal was relatively slow. The authors suggested that an accelerated research on the standardiza-tion of Chinese KM mice would be critically faced.

Three strains of transgenic mouse(IL,-4T、IL-10T、IFNgR%) were monitored by PCR technique with specific primers in order to assure the genetic quality of the three strains transgenic mouse after a long period propagation. The results showed that the recombincd genes of part of the transgenic mouse were changed or lost.

To study the effects of hypothermia on the fetal lamb during tetal cardiopul-monary bypass. 12 pregnant goats (120-140 days gestation) were divided into two groups:one group for fetal normothermic bypass (37℃,n= 6),the other group for fetal hypothermic bypass (28℃,n= 6). The circuit consisted of roller pump and artificial oxygenator. Fetal bypass lasted one hour. The blood gas, heart rate and blood pressure were monitored for the goats and fetal lamb. During hypothermic bypass, heart rate of fetus slow down, the pH of blood were decreased gradually following bypass. After fetal lamb wean off bypass, degrees of hypoxia, hypercarbia, acidosis in the hypothermic group were much stronger than that of normothermic group. Heart rate and blood pressure reduced seriously in hypothermic group after bypass. In conclusion, hypothermia is detrimental to the fetal-placental unit during fetal cardiopulmonary bypass.

To establish animal model of Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection in BALB/c mice,Hp characterized by PCR & microbial enzymology was administered to BALB/c mice with gastrelcosis and pseudo-gastrelcosis caused by strings containing erosive drugs embedded in mucosa of antrum of greater crivature and puncturing greater crivature with 2# surgical needle, respectively. Samples of gastric mucosa of the mice administered with Hp 17,65,and 72 days were removed and cullurcd in spccial medium for Hp and opalescent colonies of Hp grew, which indicated that the animal model of infecting BALB/c mice was successfully established.

Animal models of congenital heart diseases were difficult to produce and no reliable methods were recognized. The authors reviewed the recent progress in the models of congenital heart diseases made by non-surgery screening and discussed their clinical applications for research in etiology, patho-physiology and therapy at molecule and gene level.
