Abstract: The lingual superficial structure of dog, cat, rhesus monkey, pig, rabbit, rat and guinea-pig was studied by scanning electronmicroscope. The tongue proper of pigs reveals clearly and its lingual papillae structure on the surface is very similar to that of human being. Therefore, pigs can be selected as an ideal pathological model. The lingual structure of rabbit also resembles that of human being, but the superficial keratosis of the tongue is very apparent and the revelation of the tongue proper is not satisfactory. However, because of its availability and low price, rabbit can also be selected as the model for tongue feature study.
