A single Eirneria sp, oocyst isolated from mouse feces was inoculated into each mouse orally,and the mice were infected. Through observing the morphology,time for spora-tion, prepatent period, and parasitic sites etc. of the oocysts, they were identified as oocysts of E. ferrisi. The pathogenicity and the regularity of the oocysts shedding were also studied.

To duplicate a model for pregnancy - induced hypertension in rats,normal saline solution and L - NAME (L - nitro - arginine methyl easter, an inhibitor of nitric oxide synthase) in different doses were infused subcutaneously to pregnant Wistar rats from the 15th day to the end of gestation. The effects of L - NAME on the pregnant rats and their fetus - placenta units were observed. The results showed that subcutaneous infusion of L -NAME resulted in significant increase in maternal blood pressure and urine protein accompanied by relevant functional injuries and histophathologic changes of the liver and kidney. This treatment also caused a substantial decrease in the weights of the pups and the sizes of the placentas. These signs are similar to those of pregnancy - induced hypertension in women,and indicate that a decrease in nitric oxide synthesis may be one of the important factors in the pathogenesis of this disorder.

To study the effects of ethynylestradiol (EE) on the biochemical parameters and hepatic tissue in pregnant rats,the pregnant rats were injected with EE(2.5 mg/kg • d,dissolved in propylene glycol,lg/L,n=10) or vehicle (n=10) subcutaneously from the 15th to 19th day of gestation. The serum levels of ALT, AST, ALP,TBA and CHO were measured before and after the treatment. The livers were examined histologically after the treatment. The results showed that significantly increasing in levels of ALT, AST and TBA accompanied by intrahepatic cholestasis was found in the experimental rats,while no alterations were found in the control rats. These alterations induced by EE are similar to those of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy in women.

Quantitative Assessment of Lipid Deposits in Arterial Walls by Intravascular Ultrasound Imaging in Rabbits

To develop a new means of quantitating iipid deposits in vivo the authors performed intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) imaging on twenty atherosclerotic male New Zealand White rabbits, measured the sectional area and thickness of the plaques, the lumen area and diameter in lesion arteries. The results revealed that all of the rabbits were found with lipid deposits with the features of hypoechosic areas in IVUS image that adhered to the inner of the arterial walls and were coincided with the histopathologic observations. The sec tional area of the plaques was 0.71±0.26mm², and the thickness was 0.27±0.09mm. The authors consider that IVUS imaging would be a new means of quantitative assessment for the lipid deposits in vivo.

Levels of Cytosolic Free Calcium and Aggregation of Platelet in Renovascular Hypertension Rats

The renovascular hypertension animal models were successfully established in rats by using “2-Kidney，1-Clip”method. The plasma A I , the platelet cytosolic free calcium concentration([Ca²⁺]_i) and the platelet aggregation (PAg) rate were measured 8 weeks after the operation (at the stable stage of hypertension). The results showed that the [Ca²⁺]_i and PAg rate increased significantly(P＜0.01) , whereas plasma A I only slightly elevated (P＞0.05). These findings suggest that the abnormality of the intracellular calcium and platelet activity were existing during the sustaining period of hypertension in the 2K1C-RHR.

The positive rate of B virus relative antibody (antibody to HSV - 1) in rhesus monkey sera was compared with that of B virus antibody by using ELISA. The positive rate of B virus relative antibody was 65%(13/20),while that of B virus antiboty in the same samples detected in Japan was 85%(17/20). In another experiment, B virus antibody was detected in 7 of the 70 serum samples negative in B virus relative antibody detected with ELISA and EIA. The results demonstrate that not all the B virus infectious monkeys can be detected by using HSV - 1 antigen.

The role of arginine vesopressin (AVP) in the tolerance to endotoxin fever was observed in rabbits. The results showed① injection of AVP - antiserum into the septal arer markedly enhanced the febrile response to endotoxin in the rabbits tolerant to this pyrogen,②AVP contents in the plasma and CSF of the rabbits tolerant to endotoxin increased markedly in comparison with normal and febrile rabbits ,while in the hypothalamus it in-creased slightly in comparison with the febrile rabbits. This suggests that the centrally acting AVP may play an important role in the tolerance to endotoxin fever in rabbits.

G - banding,C - banding and Silver - staining techniques have been used to study the chromosomes of the Banna miniature pig. The relative length, centromere index and arm ratio of each individual chromosome were measured. The G - banding pattern of the chromosomes in the Banna miniature pig is similar to those of other domestic pigs. The sites of NORs were located on the chromosome 7 and 10 of the Banna miniature pig. The C - banding and Ag - NORs presented polymorphism. The C - banding pattern of the Banna miniature pig is similar to that of the Diannan small ear pig,but there are great differences in Ag -NORs between them.
