Abstract: Infections caused by Candida albicans can occur on the skin, on mucous surfaces, or in disseminated form throughout the body. The models on these infections have been developed in vivo and in vitro. Patterns of infection differ in inbred mice, and the variability has been shown to be genetically regulated for both experimental systems. Fortunately, the availability of gene-knockout mice has also contributed significantly to an understanding of the cellular and molecular basis of the host response. In this article, the links between the patterns of infection and the genetic factors that affected the infection was reviewed for a better elucidation on this issue.
