Abstract: The Banna Minipig originated from the Xishang Banna Prefecture,Yunnan Province, belongs to the stock of Huanan-type pig （Southern China pig）. In May 1987, eight male and 42 female native Banna Minipigs were introduced to the prefecture pig breeding farm. During 3 years rearing and selective breeding, more than 150 char-acteristicvs were determined and estimated.The results showed that the body weight, height and length at 6 months old were 13.10±0.40 kg, 32.34±0.36cm and 54.59±0.79cm for males, 17.21±0.42 kg, 34.40±0.24cm and 58.52±0.60 for females. The adult body weight was 36.12±1.09 kg and 43.29±1.04 kg for ma-les and females respectively. The minipig was sexuel precocity, the breeding age starts at 4-6 months old. The survival littersize was 7.84±0.39 for multiparous sow. The heritability of the characteristics related to body size reached to 0.3 or even more, and also shows medium genetic relation between the characteristics. The results suggest that the characteristics of small body size and low growth rate of Banna Minipig can be inherited stably.
