Relationship between Age and Histamine-induced Airway Reactivity in Guinea Pigs

The relationship between the different ages (3、10、22weeks) and histamine - induced airway reactivities was studied in conscious and unrestrained guinea pigs. The result showed that the difference of histamine - induced airway reactivities between 3 and 10 week - old animals was not significant (P＞0.05),but the response to histamine in 22 week - old animals was reduced significantly as compared with those in 3 and 10 week - old guinea pigs (P＜0.01). And it was suggested that 7～10 week - old guinea pigs may be the most suitable for asthma experiment.

Pulmonic hypertension in 2 groups of Wistar rats was induced by exposing the rats to an isobaric atmosphere containing 10% O₂， and the other containing 10% O₂ with 6.5% CO₂ respectively for 8h daily for 4 weeks. The mean pulmonary arterial pressure and right ventricular pressure, right ventricular weight, blood gas analysis and pathological changs of the hearts and lungs in the rats were observed. The results showed that the pulmonic hypertension models could be established in a short time (4 weeks) ,and could mimic cor pulmonale with respiratory failure in human better than that induced by hypobaric hypoxia.

The Pneumocystis carinii (PC) were isolated through bronchial alveolar lavage from PC pneumonia rats prepared by induction with prednisolone, and it was treated and purified with anti - rat - common leukocyte antigen monocolonal antibody. The ingesting ability of macrophage for PC and the effect of glucocorticoid were studied in vitro. The results showed that the PC could be ingested and degraded by peritoneal macrophage (PM_φ) and alveolar macrophage (AM_φ). The difference of uptake of mature cyst forms (MCFs) of PC between PM_φ and AM_φ was not significant (P＞0.05). The ingesting ability of AM_φ for PC in dexamethasone pretreatment group was inhibited after 60 min of phagocytosis in comparison with non ” pretreatment group (the uptake of MCFs of PC:10.08 士0.3/100M_φ vs 12. 25土0. 28/100M_φ,P＜0.05). The results suggested that the induction of PC pneumoni-a in rats with the glucocorticoid may be related to the inhibition of macrophage ingestion a-bility, and that macrophage may play an important role in the protection of the pathogenesis of PC.

"To establish the metastatic model of human gastric carcinoma,the histologically intact gastric adenocarcinoma specimens were implanted in the gastric walls of SCID mice. The results showed that the metastasis to the lymph nodes (10/10)，livers (8/10) and lungs (4/10) occured 6 weeks after the implantation. These revealed that the orthotopic implantation of histologically intact carcinoma in SCID mice could give rise to high metastatic rate in short duration. "

"The mutagenicities of the various organic fractions of the exhaust particulates from the diesel (trademark : Yuejin) were studied by micronucleus test on bone marrow polychromatid erythrocytes (PCE,in vivo) in mice and Chinese hamster ovarian cells (CHO in vitro). The results showed that all the five fractions of the diesel exhaust particulates could significantly increase the frequencies of micronucleus of PCE and CHO，in comparison with DMSO control (P＜0.05 or P＜0.01),and the dose - response relationships were apparent. The mutagenicities of organic bases，polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and polar compounds were higher than those of the other fractions. "

The levels of trace elements in the blood, hair and major organs of the chronic hemor-rhagic anemia rats were assayed by the method of ICP. The results revealed that neither the iron level of the blood nor the iron level of the hair could indicate the general conditon of iron deficiency before the exhaustion of the iron reservoir in the body. And it is suggested that in addition to replenishing iron during the treatment of chronic hemorrhagic anemia, the elements such as manganese and nickel should also be supplemented.

Diabetic ulcers were created artificially on both sides of the backs of diabetic model rats,and the healing course was observed. The results showed that the healing process was poor and prolonged in diabetic rats as compared with control (normal rats with the same ulcers). At day 7 only 40% of the ulcerated areas in diabetic rats were healed,as compared with 70% in control. Up to day 14 all ulcerated areas were healed in control,but in diabetic rats some of the ulcerated areas were still remained unhealed. The results of the pathological observation support the concept of the delayed ulcer healing in diabetic condition.

The high serum levels of thyroid hormones in rats were induced by oral administration of thyroid tablets (average dose for each rat ：4mg/d×60d). The serum levels of T₃ and T₄ of the rats were measured,and the myocardial histopathological changes were observed. The results showed that at the end of the administration the serum levels of T₃,T₄ were 0.81±0.11,34.70±0.91 nmol/L respectively,and were higher than those in control animals. Under optic microscope the myocardial fibers were found to be disorder in pattern with vague cross striations and broken longitudinal striations. Fibrosis，fatty degeneration and lymphocyte infiltration were found in the pathological foci. Under electron microscope, most of the myofibrils were found to be broken, the Z - lines disappeared or fused with each other,and the mitochondrias in the myocytes were swelled.

Some physiological and blood biochemical values in 3～10 month-old plateau pika (Ochotona curzoniae) were measured. The results showed that the blood pressure in plateau pika was similar to that in rabbit and guinea pig. The heart rate and respiratory rate were higher than those in rabbit, but lower than those in mouse. The oxygen consumption was higher than that in rabbit,rat and guinea pig,and similar to that in mouse. The serum levels of albumin and triglyceride were higher than those in rabbit and human, but the serum level of cholesterol was lower than that in rabbit and human.
