    Distribution and Morphology of the 5-HT Endocrine Cells in the Small Intestine of Rhesus Monkeys

    Six rhesus monkeys were used to study the distribution and morphology of 5 - hy-droxytryptamine (5-HT) endocrine cells in the small intestine by using immunohis-tochemical streptavidin/peroxidase (SP) method,and Weibel,s stereological method. The results were as follows:① the density of 5-HT endocrine cells in the small intestine of the rhesus monkeys was the highest in the duodenum and moderate in the jejunum and the lowest in the ileum;② 5-HT endocrine cells were distributed mainly in the glandulate duodenales and less in the villi;③ 5-HT cells were various in shape,mostly oval,shuttle, pyramidal or round ;and ④ basal portion of some endocrine cells had processes,extended to luminal surface of the crypt or intestinal tract with 5-HT positive substance accumulating in their ends. These results suggested that 5-HT endocrine cells have paracrine and exocrine functions.

    To establish an animal model imitating clinical sign of liver metastasis after eradicative resection of colorectal cancer, the human colon cancer cells were inoculated into the spleen of BALB/c nude mice, then the spleens were resected 5 minutes later. On the 30th day of postoperation , we found that the incidence of liver metastases was 100% , however no metastatic noudle was observed in extrahepatic organs. Histological examination showed that the metastases were poorly differentiated colon adenocarcinoma. The results indicated that the experimental method used to establish the model was successful.

    The activities of acid - and alkaline - phosphatase (ACP and AKP) in rat liver cells under normal and heat shock conditions were examined. The results showed that the best incubation time that enzymes interacting substrates is 40 min and 2.5h respectively. The rats were treated by heat shock at 42、44 and 46℃ respectively for 30min,then maintained at 25℃ for 24h,it was found that the activities of ACP and AKP in rat liver cells were the most active at 42℃ for 30 min. By heat shock of 46℃ for 30min ,and then at 25℃ for 1 -120h,ACP and AKP were the most active at 48h. The significance of ACP and AKP activi-tives responed to heat shock by rats was discussed.

    Tissue structure of ovary and oviduct in nine Tupaia glis was observed by light and electron - microscopy. The observation demonstrated that the structure examined has their characteristics compared to those of other mammalian as follws : (1) the ovary capsule is in a state of pitting notch to its parenchyma, (2) the amount of primordial follicle is less and almost in signal rank , (3) its Zona pellucida is thicker, (4) atresic follicle formed from primary and secondary follicles are more,(5) interstitial gland are rare,and (6) there are ducts covered with simple columnar epithelium in medulla. The results may be used for classification of Tupaia glis based on the ovary and oviduct sturcture.

    In order to study the characteristics of two cell lines (S1,S2) derived from human osteosarcoma cell LTH - OS(S) and established by clone technique and transplantation. Cellgrowth in soft agar,chromosome analysis, histological observation, and tumor formation rate in nude mice were used to characterize the cells. Electrophoresis mobility was 1.00 and 0.70,the doubling time of population was 22.4 h and 24.0 h,the clone formation rate in soft agar was 33.5% and 23.1% for S1 and S2,respectively. Extensive lung tumor was observed in nude mice after inoculation of S1 cells through tail vein. The results indicated that the cell lines isolated may be very useful material for the study of characteristics of metastatic cancer cells.

    In order to find out the most suitable treatment temperature and time for establishing a rat model of cold - induced vasogenic brain edema, three temperatures (- 60℃、-80℃ and -196℃) and four time (1、2、3、4 minutes) were used. The brass cup, filled with acetone,at the temperature of -60℃、-80℃ and -196℃ was put directly on one side of the rat bony skull resoectuvekt. The results of microscopic and electromicroscopic examinantions revealed that frost at -196℃ for 1 minute, can induce rat brain edema obviously and easily with low mortality.

    "Deep hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass (DHCPB) model was established in piglets. Two grades of perfusion flow rate and two types of prime formula were used to study their influnce on changing rate of body temperature, balance of body fluid,blood hematocrit and colloidal pressure in prime. The results showed that 80ml • kg-1• min-1 of perfusion flow rate and pure blood prime were better than 100ml • kg-1• min-1 and mixed prime of crystalloid and blood. The results suggested that perfusion flow rate and prime formula should be correctly designed according to the normal physiology of selected animals when DHCPB model was to be established. "

    Male Clean SD rats were divided into two groups, and raised in conventional facility (open air,group 1 ,n=54) or in a room utilizing laminar air flow with filtration (clean air, group 2,n=50). To induce immunosuppression the rats were given cortisone acetate (25mg×2/week,sc)for 12 weeks, then the lung impression smears and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid sediment smears stained with Giemsa stain and lung sections stained with Gro-cott-Gomori silver stain were prepared to find Pneiunocystis carinii (PC) organism. Bacteria and fungi were also checked. The results showed that the incidence of induced Pnenmocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) in group 2 (28%, 14/50) was higher then that in group 1 (0% ,0/54,P<0.001),and that the incidence of bacterial pneumonia in group 2(62%) was lower than that in group 1 (89% ,P<0.01). The results suggested that the air quality of breeding room could affect the incidence of PCP induced by immunosuppressive agents in rat.
