An Experimental Study on Paralysis Agitans Model in Rat

Forty-seven female Sprague-Dawley rats received stereotaxic injections of 6-OHDA (8 μg/4μl) containing 0.02% ascorbic acid into the right medial substantia nigra of ventral tegmen mesencephalon. Twenty-three successful models were obtained by injections of 0.5 mg/kg apomorphine at 2, 4, 6, 8 weeks after operation respectively. The rats, choosed from successful models, were poured and fixed, then floating slices, frozen slices and vibration slices of the brain were made separately 2 weeks, 1 month and 2 months after operation. The specimen were examined by ABC and revealed that the Tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) positive cells were decreased to about 15% in surviving 2 weeks rats. About 98% TH positive cells of compact substantia nigra were disappeared in surviving 1 month and 2 months rats. Right substantia nigra cells were found to be reduced to 5% with massive proliferation of glias by TH and nissl double technique, while the left substantia nigra areas were remain normal. This study confirms that dopaminergic and noradrenaline neurons were selectively destroyed by 6-OHDA.

Comparative Study on Tail Ratios of Mice (Mus mus-culus) in Different Living Environment

The tail ratios of 159 mice from 9 regions in China were measured. It is clear that the tail ratios of mice are closely correlated with the average air temperature in a year in their living region (r=0.96 y=1.45x+63,75). There are significant differences in the tail ratios among mice from cold, warm and hot region (P＜0.01). The mechanism of tail length variation and the causes of the complicity of subspecies classification of mice were discussed.

Immunohistochemical and histochemical techniques were used to observe the endocrine cells of induced intestinal carcinomas and adjacent mucosa in 41 rats. The results showed that endocrine cells were present in the carcinomas, the distributions of endocrine cells were similar in each histologic type of carcinoma and adjacent mucosa. This might be closely related to the environments of carcinogenesis. The discrepancy between the distribution of argyrophil cells and irSer cells revealed that argyrophil positivity might be correlated with other factors besides Ser and monoamines.

Infant-care behavior of cotton-top tamarin has a direct effect on infant morta-. lity. This study indicated that the involvement of parents in infant-care were related not only to the biparental experience in rearing infants, but also to the mother's nutritional status after parturition, and to the body weight and numbers of infant. Feeding with artificial milk is an important attempt to rear the forsaked babies successfully.

The level of serum IgG in conventional Zmu-1： DHP guinea pig was detected by single radial immunodiffusion. The level was increased with age from 15-70 days, and tended to be steady or declined slightly thereafter. The level of serum IgG of the strain at the age of 35 days (about 300 g body weight) was 5.37 mg/ml. Generally there was no significant difference in sex. As compared with the purchased strain, the level of serum IgG of Zmu-l. DHP guinea pig had a more steady pattern and a less difference among individuals.

"Superoxide dismutase and peroxidase isozymes were detected with polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis from tissues of the heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney, brain, leg muscle, ovary and uterus in Guizhou miniature piglets. There are two common bands of zymogram on superoxide dismutase and one common band on peroxidase for all the sampled tissuses. The activity of the two isozymes was higher in the liver, spleen, lung and kidney than the others. Peroxidase isozyme was not detectable in the brain. "
