Good news: LACM Successfully Indexed by Scopus Database
Recently, the editorial office received an email notification from the Scopus review committee, confirming that Laboratory Animal and Comparative Medicine (“LACM”,ISSN 1674-5817; CN 31-1954/Q), jointly organized by the Shanghai Society of Experimental Biology and the Shanghai Experimental Animal Research Center, has successfully passed the rigorous review of the Scopus Content Selection & Advisory Board (CSAB) and has been officially indexed by the renowned international database, Scopus!
In the evaluation, CSAB acknowledged the journal's commitment to animal welfare ethics and its transparent publishing policies, while suggesting that the journal could further strengthen bilingual publishing or enhance the website's translation capabilities. As a result, articles published in recent years will be gradually included in the Scopus database, and the journal is expected to receive its first international journal evaluation data (CiteScore) in 2025.
The inclusion of LACM in the Scopus database marks a significant milestone in the journal's quality improvement and internationalization process. It indicates that the journal's academic standards and influence have been widely recognized by the international academic and publishing communities. In the future, the journal's international reach will continue to grow. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the leaders, editorial board members, reviewers, authors, readers, and colleagues who have consistently supported and cared for the journal’s development.
Laboratory Animal and Comparative Medicine was established in 1981 and is currently governed by the Shanghai Academy of Sciences, co-sponsored by the Shanghai Society of Laboratory Animal Science and the Shanghai Laboratory Animal Research Center. Over the past five years, the journal’s impact factor has continuously increased, making it both a core journal in Chinese science and technology and in the field of Chinese medicine and health. Since 2022, it has been indexed by internationally recognized databases such as the American Chemical Abstracts (CAS), Ulrichsweb, EBSCO, CAB Abstracts, Global Health, ICI World of Journals, ICI Master List, DOAJ, WPRIM, and Scopus. It is also involved in the Phase II Cluster Pilot Program of the Excellence Action Plan for Chinese Science and Technology Journals (B5). The journal is a bi-monthly publication in Chinese, with bilingual extended abstracts and tables/figures (it has been selected for the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) Bilingual Communication Program for Science and Technology Journals from 2022 to 2024). The average period from submission to publication is about 6 months, and the journal’s articles can be prioritized for digital publication through the official website and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). The main sections of the journal include the establishment and application of animal models for human diseases (which won the Outstanding Column Award in East China in 2024), development and use of laboratory animal resources, quality control of laboratory animals, animal facilities/platforms and management, animal experimentation techniques and methods, laboratory animal welfare and ethics, laboratory animal medicine, and comparative medicine. We welcome domestic and international colleagues to actively submit manuscripts. The submission website is https://www.slarc.org.cn/dwyx.
Scopus is the world's largest abstract and citation database, established in 2004 by Elsevier in the Netherlands. It covers academic fields including science, technology, medicine, social sciences, arts, and humanities. The Scopus Content Selection & Advisory Board ensures that only high-quality journals and literature are included through strict selection criteria, which primarily cover journal policies, content quality, journal ranking, regular publication, and online accessibility. This standard enhances the authority and academic credibility of the journals indexed in Scopus, thus increasing the credibility and visibility of research outcomes. Currently, Scopus includes literature data from peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, patents, and books from around the world, assisting researchers, academic institutions, and businesses in conducting comprehensive literature reviews and academic performance evaluations. Every year, Scopus evaluates the quality and impact of indexed journals using four quantitative metrics: h-Index, CiteScore, SJR, and SNIP. As a result, Scopus-indexed journal data is used for research evaluation and rankings in many universities, research institutions, and government departments globally. Through its citation data and broad visibility of research outcomes, Scopus provides a tool for assessing and comparing academic impact for research institutions worldwide.
