Abstract: Liver fibrosis is the excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix proteins including collagen that occurs in most types of chronic liver diseases. Advanced liver fibrosis results in cirrhosis and liver failure. Animal models of liver fibrosis provide a means to study the cell and molecular mediators of fibrosis in a serial manner during both progression and recovery. This review summarizes several approaches to induce rats liver fibrosis. Detailed Method, pathogenesis, pathology changes of liver, advantages and disadvantages of each method and different application in research were discussed.
