Abstract: Diabetic mellitus animal models include spontaneous and induced rodent or non-human primate etc. Some of the characteristics of these animal models, such as disease development、changes of histopathology are similar to those of human diabetes mellitus. Diabetic mellitus animal models can be applied to research of preventive medicine、etiology and mechanism of human diabetes and its complications, and also to the exploiting of new medicines for diabetes. With the development of new biotechnology，diabetic mellitus animal models will play a more important role in conquering the disease of diabetes mellitus.
