Study on Domesticating and Breeding of Microtus fortis Buchner

Abstract: Microtus fortis Buchner is the only kind of rodent resistant to Schistosoma jap-onica. Through 2 years domestication, the animals(M. fortis Buchner) captured from Yueyang area in Hunan province had basically adapted to the conventional breeding environment of laboratory rodents (ambient temperature, 18-26℃; relative humidi-ty, 60%—70%), grown and developed well, and gradually regained its' normal reproductivity. Its' sexual maturity was at 75-80 days old.The first mating was at 85—90 days old, the gestation length was 21 days, the average litter size 3.7, and the weaning rate 68.75%.
